San Francisco, California Streamline Drywall contributed to the Building 5 Seismic Retrofit Project at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, a major public-works initiative supporting San Francisco’s long-term commitment to healthcare resilience, life safety, and emergency preparedness. Building 5 is a 442,000-square-foot concrete hospital facility originally constructed in 1976 and currently undergoing a comprehensive seismic upgrade. The project is designed to strengthen the structure’s earthquake resistance while enabling the relocation and consolidation of critical hospital functions, including outpatient services, public health laboratories, and family health care programs. Upon completion, Building 5 will serve as the hospital’s future Outpatient Care Center, capable of remaining operational following a major seismic event. Operating within an active healthcare environment, Streamline supported the delivery of interior building systems under highly coordinated, schedule-driven conditions where safety, accuracy, and reliability were paramount. The scope required careful alignment with existing conditions, phased construction sequencing, and strict adherence to hospital life-safety standards, all while maintaining uninterrupted patient care and facility operations.
The Building 5 seismic retrofit strengthens one of San Francisco’s most vital healthcare facilities, enhancing its ability to serve the city during emergencies while supporting expanded outpatient and community health services. The project impacts more than 200 locations across all seven floors of the hospital, reinforcing the structural integrity of the building while enabling future clinical adaptability.
As the City and County’s sole Level I trauma center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital plays a critical role in regional healthcare delivery and medical research in partnership with University of California, San Francisco. Streamline’s contributions supported the project’s demanding quality and safety standards while reinforcing San Francisco’s broader investment in resilient civic infrastructure.
Streamline is proud to have participated in a project that reflects San Francisco’s values of public safety, long-term planning, and investment in essential community services.
